Let's applaud the Baltimore mother captured on video disciplining her rioting son.

Call me cruel, insensitive or irresponsible, but it did my heart good to see the enraged mother in Baltimore whoop her son upside the head a few times when she found out he'd been rioting in the streets. Serves him right.

If I hadn't been so sad, I'd have been happy to see this furious mother, identified by CBS News as Toya Graham, pummeling her teenage son with the force and fury of Mike Tyson or Manny Pacquiao. If I hadn't been so disturbed, I'd have been elated to see her chasing him down the street, trying to rip off his face mask, hurling expletives at him for risking his life and involving himself in such madness. She was right to beat his butt. He was being stupid.

It's about time mothers stepped up and stepped in. Our sons need us. Especially when they've lost control, or when they are endangering their lives and the lives of others, Or when they're "acting a fool," as my own mother would have aptly described it, our sons need us to get in their faces. And we need to do it without apology, without fear of being seen as politically incorrect, and without worrying about what other folks might think. Their lives depend on it.
